Here’s What You Get with Residential Movers

You’re starting a new chapter in your life, and you’re taking the important stuff along for the ride. Here’s how residential movers protect that blank slate:

Extra Care

Everything in your home tells a story, and residential movers can make sure those stories have a happy ending. Your movers will wrap it, pack it, and move it with care. They’ll also use high-quality packing supplies and come with the right equipment for the job. Sometimes, t-shirts just don’t cut it.

Extra Hands

You may have hit the weights when you were in college, and we respect that - but if you try to move that antique dresser by yourself, you’re in for a bad time. Residential movers can help you haul the heaviest, bulkiest, and just plain awkwardest items, so you don’t risk damaging the goods (or yourself).

Alternate Text

The Extra Mile

This isn’t door-to-door delivery: it’s room-to-room. After the long haul, your residential movers can put every item right where it belongs. It’s a lot easier to get situated in your new place when you already know where everything is, and it’s a lot easier to move in when professional movers are doing the arranging and rearranging.

Residential Moving FAQs

Every move is different, but we make sure you’ve got plenty of extras and add-ons to suit your specific needs. Here are some other services that’ll make moving house even easier:

  • Packing: Packing is one of the toughest and most time-consuming parts of the whole process. Why not let the pros handle it? Your residential movers will show up with boxes, padding, tape, and everything else they need to keep your stuff safe and secure.
  • Storage: Speaking of safety and security - do you need some extra space, extra time, or maybe a little of both? You can book secure storage through iMoving for some much-needed moving day flexibility.
  • Specialty moving: Yes, everything in your home deserves extra TLC - but do you have anything that REALLY needs a professional touch? From vintage motorcycles to antique pianos, specialty moves can custom-cate it and pack it with care.
  • Last-minute moving: We don’t know why you’re getting out of town in a hurry, but there’s a last-minute mover for the job. Book through iMoving, and we’ll cut straight to the chase.

If you’re trying to move on the cheap, you can find boxes and moving supplies at office parks, bookstores, and even liquor stores. Ask them if they’ve got anything they’re willing to donate to the cause.

If you’ve got a bit more in your budget, you can use iMoving to order pro-grade packing supplies, delivered right to your doorstep.

In the moving industry, anything over 100 miles or across state lines counts as a long-distance move, even if the state line is just across the street. Long-distance movers need special licensing and certifications to conduct interstate business, and they charge differently also: You’ll have to pay per mile, and per pound - although some movers measure your stuff by cubic feet.

On the other hand, local movers handle everything within the same state, and within 100 miles. They still need to register with the Department of Transportation, but since they aren’t operating across state lines, they don’t have to go the extra step in terms of licensing. Local movers also charge per hour, and per mover. (Most jobs require two movers per room).

A move will usually take between 1 and 21 days. It all comes down to how far you’re going and how much you’re taking with you. Small moves actually take longer, since moving companies try to avoid sending half-empty trucks if they can avoid it.

Instead, they’ll wait until they have multiple moves bundled up on the same truck, and they’ll make pickups or dropoffs along the way. They’ll keep everything safe and separated, but expect a longer wait in any case.

Good rule of thumb: they won’t haul anything that can damage their truck. This means no flammable substances, no pressurized containers, and nothing perishable or alive. And this applies to even tiny amounts - typically, movers won’t even transport a bottle of hairspray.

Keep in mind, that every mover has their own list of restricted items, so the specifics may vary. Call yours up if you want to be extra safe.
